Dont Mess!

thought i would jus say a little on the GE 2006.

first of all... i mentioned previously in a post that my fellow schoolmates purposely voted for WORKERS party and i said that their attempts at being rebels reeked.
and recently, when i enquired a few friends of their voting choice, they said the opposition. some even questioned my outpour of love for chiam [visible in my msn nick] . and so i realised that some of you have misunderstood my point.
see, i dont hate the opposition.
The opposition IS necessary. what i criticized was how my fellow schoolmates voted for the WP to REBEL against the PAP for the sake of being rebellious?
And truly, i realised that THAT IS the increasing trend and viewpoint. Vote for whatever opposition because of your loyalty to them , because you would like to give them a chance , but not because u dislike the PAP or because they are arrogant?
or because u jus want to put down the PAP?

KUDOS to hougang and potong pasir. Chiam See Tong IS da man! i have spoken to him (abit only lar) and seriously, he has this humble disposition . And 22 years in power? shows this man has created somethin in people of potong pasir who cant be swayed by mere abalone proridges and 80 million.
I am proud of every Singaporean who have voted for Chiam based on their fierce loyalty and for giving him a chance.
To be frank, I was worried of the GE because on only one thing ; the constituency of potong pasir and if Chiam would win. given the narrow range of the previous elections and my grandmother herself being shaky on her vote and tellin me that she would vote for the party which promised her lifts.. i was afraid that Chiam wouldnt make it.
I truly wasnt interested in the hoo haa over Gomez and the workers party.. And the disappearing acts of some candidates of the opposition party.

Then again , this is where my second point of ignorance comes in. Ignorance and powerlessness= invalid votes. those overseas do not bother to reinstate their voting status because of their perception that the PAP is going to win anyway.
So we have two groups of people in our generation : The ones who feel that their votes dont matter, and the other who just attempt at being anti-PAP.
i read an article ST 7 May 2006.i apologise tremendously but i cant rmb the writer's name.
The overall jist of the article which I would like to put across : How the political parties failed to make the people feel that their vote truly mattered. How the ignorance of the people is becoming an increasingly worryin trend.
Amidst all the defamation suits, blah blah blah, the parties failed to put across to people the significance of their vote.

So I have been having interesting conversations about politics with them friends. If the overall lower vote percentage for PAP shows one thing , it would be how Singapore's political landscape is changing.
And how interesting its gonna keep getting.
from havin almost 3/4 of the votes to havin only 2/3... The PAP has probably gotten their wakeup call... that they cannot appeal to the youngsters merely by havin younger, 'fresher' candidates.
they would have to do more. WAY more.

ALRITE my desperate housewives time. CIAOZ.
