my june hol english hw.
rite.. so its a comprehension. but its very very interesting.
somethin rather enlightening. the whole term 1&2, my class has been doin abit of sexual discrimination, feminism(a lil bit), workin women and all that.
so this compre was jus ...wah. thinkin point.
well the jist of the compre is that men & women can NEVER be the same ..
with their innate sexual differences. nono i jus dont mean their reproductive organs. or the author rather.
its more..
it explains that even though Many differences in character and aptitudes in men & woman are proven to be attributed by their hormones and are inborn ...many still do not get rid of their beliefs that social conditioning is wat forces kids at young ages to behave according to society's impositions.
rite. i will quote this para...
"such people maintain that children are psycologically neutral-blank slates on which society(in the guise of parents, teachers, employers, politicians and similar authority figures) scrawls instrutions for sexually appropriate behavious ,imposing on growing children expectations and roles..........................."
well it goes on to explain that women are more 'adept at tuning to peripheral information containin in expression &gesture' and that explains why they are such shrewd judges of character. for men, well they are better at skills requirin spatial ability, love power,aggression..and hierachy..
and that these abilities account for the controversial belief that 'no women of genius, and very few of considerable talent,in chess,mathematics...'
so are feminists, and active female movements fightin for the right things?
well true enough...in developin countries, there are social traditions and cases which spell out simply 'male dominance'. and call for extreme help from social workers or feminists for that matter.
i watched 'osama', a movie... simply heartbreakin.
its in a third world country....
abt how a girl cut her hair ...behaved like a boy.....was away from her mother (her only kin)... jus to escape cruelty and then they pick her out to join the army.
her peers dont believe shes a boy. they mock her... they tease her and say that if she was a boy. she could climb a tree..and so she does it..
and then she gets her period...for the first time..in the school grounds..and the leaders chase n chase after her...then they have some public thinggie where they mete out the punishment...
the movie exposed some really disgustin procedures carried out in these countries.which i shant divulge.
and they do it in the name of religion. and the movie dint have a very satisfyin ending.
very hangin i would say.
but back to the point.
so we know the situation in these developin countries. fine.
BUT
is it justifiable to fight for equality in developed countries? to say that 'education for all women' isnt jus enough. we need more.
we need equal opportunities as men in the political field, scientific field blah blah.
are these feminists fighting blindly? do they NOT know this?(innate sexual differences)
and how come as females, we ourselves do not know it?
are we all really livin blindly that the only difference between man and woman is their sexual organs? and that we can achieve equality of the sexes if we jus fight for our rights?!
yea we have heard our teachers say, 'boys, u will understand this topic more easily..."
aand 'yea, ur daughter is good in her language..its understandable..girls are naturally stronger in languages'....
but have we ever truly explored the real meaning of it?
and the future implications?
yes...theres positive discrimination.
good-females are encouraged, inspired...and their competitive spirit increases.
bad-due to intentional employment or promotion under the name of positive discrimination, under-qualified and inefficient women are in power.
so wat then can we do?
as the passage suggests, once we understand our essential differences, and bear in mind that the 'exceptional bunch of ppl who 'prove the rule' arent the general bunch....we can get rid of sexual ridicule and unecessary accusations in retaliation.
profound aint it. i kno. dont mistake me, i m not feminist.
but seriously. this compre was an enlightenment. and trust me, these days, compre passages are more than answerin questions.
sheesh.brain power.
well for one thing i do know.....we should try to embrace not only the other sex's weaknesses ...but more importantly, we should recognise our gender's faults...and not take the easy way out and blame everythin on the society.
same goes for religion. ah but well..thats another thing altogether aint it.
hah.
well. jus a small parting note, this is truly my own opinion and was not created under anyone's influence. u have the right to disagre or agree.
BUT u dont critcise my thinkin .
i have a tag board. if u dont agree, phrase it nice n sweet.
iwill try to answer nicely.
i have seen situations where DUMB arguments are created because of some small issues.
so i donot wish to be caught in such immature situations.
be nice and i will be nice.
cheers.
